Alcoa congratulates you on your decision to apply to the Institute for Civic Leadership Summer Academy. We are dedicated to building tomorrow’s leaders by providing a compelling experience focused on service and environmental sustainability.
Program Overview
At Alcoa, we work hard to create an inclusive culture that embraces diversity, inspires initiative, drives innovation and rewards excellence. The Alcoa Global Service Leadership (GSL) Scholarship was created to recognize those students who embody these attributes and demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and service leadership in their communities.

Alcoa will reward 50 secondary and high school students in the 9th, 10th, or 11th standard, grade, or year with full scholarships to a two-week summer session. Those students will join 50 other individuals from across the world for a unique opportunity to study and learn together at Dwight International School (DIS), Vancouver Island, Canada.
Judging & Application Qualifications
Applications will be evaluated by an elite panel of international judges from industry, government, sports and academics.

Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s merit and need, and cover full program costs, including tuition, roundtrip international travel and passport/visa fees, if necessary.
In addition to meeting the Leadership Academy eligibility requirements, Alcoa Global Service Leaders must accept the following responsibilities:
- Write an article for the Alcoa company Intranet and Internet
- Agree to be recorded before, during, and after the ICL Academy
- Make a presentation about their experiences at the ICL Academy to their home communities – potentially at a school or community group…

If you are interested in applying for funding from Alcoa, please click on the “Apply Now” button below to complete the general Academy application and check the appropriate box in Step 5 to indicate you would like to apply to the GSL program.
When you will be notified
We encourage all Alcoa Global Service Leadership applicants to apply early. You will be notified about your application status 2-3 weeks after your application is completed and submitted.
You will find out about acceptance into the GSL program on May 2, 2011.
